Peskov names low economic growth as Russia’s key failure of 2019

MOSCOW, Dec 31 (PRIME) – Russia’s key achievement in 2019 is economic and social stability, although economic growth is unassuming, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday.

“The president’s answer to this question is very traditional. We can hardly name an isolated achievement because the key goal is people’s well-being,” he told reporters.

“In fact, Russians’ well being either treaded water or has been shrinking in the last three or two years, there was such a negative trend. We cannot talk about solid growth yet, but nevertheless, the trend is positive. And this is against the backdrop of absolute macroeconomic stability. This may be our major achievement, because the Russian economy and the social sphere, despite the unfriendly atmosphere maintain their absolute stability. This this the key achiement.”

He said that the major failure was low economic growth.

“Speaking of flops, it is unassuming economic growth, everyone says so. Everyone says they are not satisfied with the growth, that’s why there is much reserve to catch up with this rate in the coming years.”
